Y!KES - 'Long Gone Silver'

Self-proclaimed anti-pop quartet Y!kes cast their spells and continue to weave their influence across the country from the comfort of their Birmingham based headquarters, transmitting light when darkness seemed to stretch far beyond the horizon. Newest single ‘Long Gone Silver’ shuns the complaints about the prospect of the music industry crumbling after 2020s events-that-shalt-not-be-named, and instead offers a glass-half-full mentality to the soul-suckers that say otherwise.

Incorporating a hand-clapped rhythm with TJ’s kick drum follows in the same vein as Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You,’ already providing a sense of involvement on the listeners part and an easily transferable element into a live setting that’ll offer the audience some much needed wholesome participation when the time comes. As Rob’s bass grooves settle into their rhythmic sway, Liam’s attack of punk guitars are rough and scrappy; perfectly imperfect.

Developing their sound further, ‘Long Gone Silver’ rattles with a more buoyant melodious aura than the bands’ previous efforts with Mass!ve and Ep!c, yet Oli Long’s moodily indie vocals continues to ground Y!kes to their initial anarchic appeal. Lyrics of musics ability to harness togetherness and inclusivity ring with memories of days gone by; ‘All we do is escape ourselves and call it fun/ dancing to words that make us feel like we’re one of the same when we’re out of our brains.’

Y!kes are finding their feet and implementing chaos with order, the balance of which delivers an exultant package straight to your front door. ‘Long Gone Silver’ is available now across all streaming platforms, follow social medias below for band updates and touring information.
