We ignore red flags because the person attached to them makes us feel something close to ecstasy. Driven by euphoria, mysterious Sleep Token pull it into blissful darkness, culminating in ‘Alkaline’.
Pulled from upcoming second album This Place Will Become Your Tomb, due September 24th, ‘Alkaline’ has us ruminating in ominous etherealness.
“It’s too late for me now/ I am altered” seeps into the ears. Vessel’s vocals marinate in rueful desolation. Keyboards dance beneath the moroseness in bleak fashion. The otherwise beautiful notion of falling in love strands us within the fibres of the web we’ve become ensnared in.
Depth comes to ‘Alkaline’ in the form of swelling guitars. Blooming within the spiked warm glow, vocal harmonies here are lusciously heart breaking. While the vocals melt into the electronic beats, ‘Alkaline’ burns like acid as it creeps through our central nervous system. Sleep Token lights us aflame with the desire to be in a love which will undoubtedly break us in the end.
