In any governmental regime or monarchy, the threat of tyranny is never far behind, looming in the background like that one uncle who generates awkwardness at every family reunion. Power corrupts us all. Modicums of importance inflate our sense of self, leading us into delusion. Tackling the ideology of autocracy, Danish five-piece Malrun coronate their ‘King Of Madness’.
Formed in 2006, Malrun have recruited new vocalist Nicklaus Sonne and prepare to release their new album Pandemonium on October 8.
A thick rock n’ roll riff born of dual guitars gets the head bobbing to the tune of lunacy. Sonne’s voice adds some much needed grit and dirt to Malrun’s arsenal. Combining the rumbling growl of hard metal with the delivery and timings of rap music, Sonne’s attack toward “your hopeless bleeding crown” is especially pointed.
Clean choruses add another facet to the insanity; the call and response aspect feeling like a recruitment drive. Though there are more dire consequences should you reject this offer as gang vocals bark “fight by my side or die”. Ramblings of the mad sovereign unravel over melodic guitar transitions. Manic proclamations never sounded so good.
Spilling out like maniacal laughter, the guitar solo ripples against the thunderous beat much like an Avenged Sevenfold song of old. Coupled with a scream from Sonne, this descent into madness is complete. The coronation with a crown made of metal, paper, or otherwise, means “eternal destruction” will reign supreme.
‘King Of Madness’ is available now across all major streaming platforms. For the latest Malrun news, including new releases and tour dates, follow their social media linked below.
