JAZMIN L'AMY

- Head Editor -

Initially raised on the picturesque island of Jersey, my obsession for rock and heavy metal music coaxed me into studying 3 years of Music Journalism at the British and Irish Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) in Brighton. I then moved permanently to London in January 2020, the beating heart of the UK's music scene.

Having conducted interviews with musicians from the likes of  Black Stone Cherry, Reef, Alice Cooper's guitarist Ryan Roxie, Cannibal Corpse, and TV legend 'Whispering' Bob Harris, these write-ups from national concerts and local festivals have appeared in publications  such as the Jersey Evening Post, The Argus, and Brighton Life magazine.

I now also host my own radio show on Indie Rocks Radio titled "...I'm Your Biggest Fan," interviewing music industry personnel about their favourite band. Every Sunday 7pm.

I've also had the privilege of appearing in Planet Rock Magazine, and am currently writing for myself, Noizze, Distorted Sound, Emerging Rock Bands, run the social media content for Doomsday Outlaw, and have written for Rock Media UK in the past. I have written features in areas other than music which include tattooing and fashion. I have undertaken work experience at Duff Press, who are in charge of the PR responsibilities of Slash, Def Leppard, and KISS, among other household names that saw me put together the press releases and expand their contacts list.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, I took this opportunity to interview musicians via FaceTime about the importance of buying band merchandise as a way for fans to continue to support the music scene, and delve into the music and merchandise they were wearing growing up. This series was titled Freak Like Tee which you can watch here.

If you're interested in having me write for you, drop me an email and I'll be happy to consider any and all requests.

Born and raised in Kent, I'm the product of a die-hard Elvis Presley fan and a dude who counts watching Jimi Hendrix play Woodstock as one of the best moments of his life. Rock music quickly became one of the greatest loves of my life, leading me to a National Diploma in Music Technology. Those years would soon become the most important period of my life as this was where I really fell in love with heavy metal.

The other great love of my life is writing. Growing up, I would spend hours scribbling away in notebooks trying to come up with the next literary masterpiece. When I wasn't writing, I'd typically have my head stuck in a book, soaking up words and writing techniques like a sponge. When rock and heavy metal came into my life, I had to know more about the people who made this music. Then, when I found a book of poetry my grandmother had contributed to sitting on a shelf in a bookshop, I asked myself one very important question; what's stopping me from asking musicians these questions myself?

In the past, I have interviewed members of My Awesome Compilation, Hypo Psycho, FreeFaller, and Bowling For Soup for college publications.

I have had the privilege of writing for WWE Superstar John Cena's now defunct 10 Week Body Change website.

Currently, I run my own blog Tea With Tasha where I discuss my life experiences with music, video games, mental health, endometriosis, and much more.

While life for me has taken a slightly different turn (read as: violently veered away from the course it was going to take), music and writing are still a huge part of my life and the opportunity to write for Freak couldn't have come at a better, and more exciting time.

I’m Chloë, I’m 22 and currently a masters student studying English Literature and specialising in horror fiction.

My undergraduate dissertation focused on exploring the different levels to horror fiction, namely ‘horror’, ‘terror’ and ‘gross-out’ as defined by Stephen King himself. My masters dissertation will be focusing on haunted house literature and the invasion of the safe space.

When I’m not reading or watching horror movies I’m going to a gig! From sold out stadiums to tiny pubs where my friends and I are the only audience, I love the atmosphere that comes with live music. I listen to a wide range of genres, anything from 80s pop all the way to heavy metal, but overall I lean towards mostly rock, alternative and indie stuff, however I’m always open to trying out new stuff. When I was younger I used to find heavy metal intimidating, now I love it!

I have published an article on alternative music for my university before as well writing a few pieces on mental health, which is a topic very close to my heart. Now I’m super excited to be writing for Freak Magazine, delving deeper into my love for music.

My name is Rory Level, I'm 20 and I'm a life long musician and music lover, discovering my passion for rock and metal at a young age. Growing up with undiagnosed ADHD until I was 14, music and drumming became my first love very quickly as I could play drums and get all of my energy out in a constructive way. I went to university in Guildford for drumming but dropped out after a year. I only went to start/ join a rock band because I live in the rural midlands and around me there’s just fields for miles and basically no other young guys that want to play rock. Anyway, I’m new here so I hope you guys enjoy my reviews.

My name is Georgia, I’m 24 and I am currently studying a BA in Music Journalism at BIMM Bristol, but since Covid-19 happened I’m back living in my hometown of Penllergaer, Wales. I am an aspiring Rock and Metal writer, I don’t have much experience but since the pandemic I have made some really great contacts in the industry including Glam Metal jokesters Steel Panther. I write about Rock and Metal mainly as those are my preferred genres, but I listen to all genres of music, ranging from 90’s girl groups to Iron Maiden. I’m keen to develop my knowledge of up and coming artists and the local music/metal scene in Bristol. I’ve come from a musical background and growing up I wanted to be a singer-songwriter but have had a love for literature from a younger age, always reading and writing stories. I would love to work in any area of music journalism whether it be broadcasting, writing for magazines, graphic design, interviewing or blogging. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had and am looking forward to upcoming projects and work placements.
