NEPTUNE RAIN - 'Bitter Pill' | Single Review

Without beating around the bush, current world events haven’t been easy on the mental state of the hive mind. Despondency has been exacerbated by prolonged periods of isolation and hopelessness. In their own account of battling depression, Cheltenham nu-metallers Neptune Rain will soon release their new single ‘Bitter Pill’. The second of a trilogy of singles coming this year, the grime-based anthem is due for release on July 30th.

Set to the synth driven atmosphere constructed by Bring Me The Horizon, proclamations of “I’ve never cried tears like these” lends vulnerability to ‘Bitter Pill.’ Thick guitars become engulfed by melancholy. Sparks of double kick become lost in angst. What promised to be a combative tune against despair becomes a bitter pill to swallow.

The melodic chorus causes the song to plateau. Not intending to, Neptune Rain wallow in the very depression they seek to escape. Becoming “resistant to the medicine” ourselves, ‘Bitter Pill’ renders us numb. Not even the pop punk influenced guitar solo can bring us round from this mental anaesthetic.

‘Bitter Pill’ releases across all major streaming platforms on July 30th. For the latest news from the Neptune Rain camp, including new releases and tour dates, click here or follow their social media linked below.
