TWISTED ILLUSION - 'Apocolypse...#LOL'

Two things are certain to survive the apocalypse: the Nokia 3210 and cockroaches. In the modern age, Mancunian prog rockers Twisted Illusion put another potential survivor to us; Starbucks. Not to be cliché, but where there’s a Starbucks, there’s an Instagram photo of weirdly wonderful coffee concoctions. Against a backdrop of ‘explosions everywhere’, Twisted Illusion already have the perfect mid-disaster caption for you; 'Apocalypse… #LOL,' which incidentally serves as their single title.

Ahead of the release of their reworked debut album Temple of Artifice scheduled for May 28th (coincidentally the 5th anniversary of the album’s original release), ‘Apocalypse… #LOL’ is the first of a slew of singles. It also marks the start of an incredibly busy 18 months for the band as they set out to release a staggering 4 studio albums; Temple of Artifice followed by the Excite The Light trilogy.

Twisted Illusion play to their name as soft acoustic guitars paint the picture of lush green countrysides, complete with hazy summer sunsets. As a meteor smashes into the Earth, a punchy electric riff comes out of nowhere, bringing booming drums along for the ride. As piano and bass play off against each other ‘Apocalypse… #LOL’ may not be the ferocious anthem the word apocalypse commands, but its light, upbeat energy juxtaposes the tempo spectacularly and allows the true meaning of the single to shine.

While the 3210 mentioned previously doesn’t have the ability to connect to social media, we all know a few people who would document the end of the world if they could. Vocalist Matt Jones channels the tone of Dio as he calls out the ‘synthesised’ phone obsessed members of society to ‘try some human emotion’ rather than remain vapid voids. A powerful metal scream punctuates the opinion that we’re all possibly a little guilty of this and need to ‘put down that phone’.

‘Apocalypse… #LOL’ documents the spiral into collective insanity and disconnect that is entirely man-made. While the actual doomsday may not go this way, no complaints will be made as it’s set to the single’s meandering solo; descending into madness while dancing all over a fretboard would be a great way to go.

‘Apocalypse… #LOL’ is available now across all streaming platforms and the pre-order for Temple of Artifice is open now. For the latest Twisted Illusion news, including new releases and potential tour dates, you can either visit their website or follow their social medias linked below.
