Glaswegian stoner doom-metal outfit, The Rhubarb, have released a brand new lyric video for their intoxicating track ‘Drag Me To Hell’. The single was plucked from their recent EP ‘Black Sun’, the release of
which has led to the band being signed to the Reaction Management roster.
Since their formation in 2015, The Rhubarb have become known for their infusion of thick, heavy rhythm and hazy production with clean male and female driven vocals, concocting a psychotropic aura to their
sound that is perfectly safe and actively encouraged to indulge in.
‘Drag Me To Hell’ is a psychedelic observation of the asperity of eating disorders and the devastating effect they have on mental health. Heavily laced with despair, the lyrics truly capture how the ‘Emptiness inside of me/ Always takes control’ of those who live with an eating a disorder. The feelings of guilt, emptiness, shame, and desperation create ‘My nasty brain’, a powerful lyrical hook that reflects the cruel tricks our minds can play on us.
Counteracting the heavy subject matter, the Scot quartet’s latest effort has an eerily laid back atmosphere, floating to hell on melodic vocals as opposed to being dragged. While the typical slow-to-mid tempo of stoner metal carries you to an intoxicating high, the impending doom within the groove-laden instrumentals are never too far away. The layering of low tuned guitars and bass playing the same riff in tandem creates a thick sludge of noise which slowly consumes you until it speeds into its crescendo, beautifully mirroring how it can be to drown within your afflictions.
‘Drag Me To Hell’, as well as EP ‘Black Sun’ is available now across all streaming platforms. To stay abreast with The Rhubarb’s news, and touring schedule, follow their social media below.
