One certainty in life is death is ever present. Time is essentially ticking away. How a person chooses to deal with that mortality is incredibly personal. Lifting the veil on how they choose to approach the topic is the Jon Marom Project with their single ‘Infinity Time’.
The Jon Marom Project is the brainchild of Spanish metal guitarist Juan Pedro Romereo Martinez. Rather than take on every role for the single, Martinez recruited rapper King Marino to preach the gospel of ‘Infinity Time’.
“Live or die, my brain has to choose” Marino states over a weighty, bleak riff. Though the lighter guitar melody seeks to pull ‘Infinity Time’ out of the abyss, the single is still dark, bordering on oppressive. Marino’s lyrics fly off the presses, like the racing mind, to the point it becomes hard to keep track. Reeling paragraphs of text from the overthinking mind asks question after question about a lifetime of good and bad decisions.
‘Infinity Time’ plays into its own game as the verse and chorus repeat themselves. This could have been an opportunity to build upon the lyrical story. The decision not to though demonstrates how easy it can be to fall into a rut. Slivers of lighter melodies throughout the second go round provide glimmers of change but it essentially remains the same.
Coming to its end, the solo from Martinez calls us to our own altars to testify. On the basis of what we’ve heard, whatever we need to confess to has already been covered. Adding our own tales of woe and doubt would become redundant, dragging something out much longer than it needs to be.
