THE HAUNT - 'Hollywood' | Single Review

Trump’s America has wrecked desecration across the lives of migrants, the LGBTQ+ community, those from disadvantageous backgrounds, and women’s rights to abortion. It’s narratives like these that spawned the Riot Grrl movement of decades past, yet the rage and anger still prevails in the same new America with the same old situations. Penning an exclusive track for a brand new teen comedy, Plan B, the four piece Floridan rockers The Haunt take their homemade and anarchist emblazoned sledgehammer to the tune of ‘Hollywood.’

The Hulu Original movie follows a couple of friends racing against the clock to hunt down a Plan B pill before the minute hand hits the 24th hour, a venture which mirrors the exhausting experience of many within the heartland of America’s desolate landscapes and neglected communities. Anna Haunt’s overly distorted vocals immediately paints this piece as a punk project, with Maxamillion Haunt’s fuzzed up guitars bringing an air of 70s DIY to the modern era. What’s more, Nat Smallish’s thick bass lines and Nick Lewert’s rhythmic drums plow through the track, emitting an attitude and force to be reckoned with.

The Haunt’s lyrics of “I know your type and I’m loving your vibe, but baby I get lost when you give me those eyes,” are tingling sensations we’ve all felt on a night out gazing across a sweaty and haze filled bar at a figure we seem attracted to only in that moment through blurred visions. Oozing the same deluded and naive infatuations as the Land of Dreams itself, ‘Hollywood’ presents a perfectly tainted canvas of the lives lived by America’s dead-end youths whilst trying to make the most out of the hand they’ve been dealt.
