Hailing from Birmingham, the birthplace of heavy metal in the form of Black Sabbath, 5 piece alternative metal band Straight for the Sun are due to release their latest single ‘Walk,’ on 15th May.
Elements of their predecessors trickle throughout this cautionary tale of alcoholism and the potential burdens it creates. The lyrics ‘do you really wanna see/what your poison does to me,’ are shrouded in chugging guitars and deep, anthemic sing-along vocals, resonating Black Veil Brides influences.
The clean twin guitars in the breakdown conjure up a glimmer of hope in the darkness, a stark contradiction compared with its aggressive subject matter. Vocalist Callum claims: “It’s a heavy hitting song for us as some of us have had experiences with people struggling in that dark place.”
You can listen to ‘Walk’ from 15th May and more Straight for the Sun releases on all streaming platforms and their website.
