Uncertainty does strange things to a person. It cripples us with fear, insecurities, and doubt. Uncertainty also leaves us isolated, opening the door for so many other emotions to come bounding in. Those feelings nestle in the pit of our stomachs. That sickness is the subject of Resolve’s new single ‘Seasick Sailor’.
Forming in 2016, Resolve’s crew; Anthony Diliberto (vocals), Robin Mariat (bass), and Nathan Mariat (drums), call out to each other across the vast space of the ocean. Mariat’s drums ripple and crash against the bow of the ship. Sails billow in the guitar’s wind. Sailing full steam ahead into treacherous waters “we will cross the monsters and the water” holds a bravery many don’t have.
The ship bobs to a groove similar to a Funeral For A Friend track. Slips of heavy guitar wash over the decks as the waters grow evermore stormy. A gentle interlude serves as the calm before the storm. Picked melodies and harmonies of the sea shanties mask the impending doom of the tsunami sat on the starboard side. “Bruised and battered I keep pushing against the odds” grabs the helm and steers straight into the wall of water.
“Facing the hurricane/ I’ve come all this way” opens the flood gates. The huge wave hammers down on Resolve’s ship, threatening to tear it apart. The groove which held the ship captive before now pushes it into calmer waters. Sailing uncharted waters is a terrifying prospect for anyone, but Resolve shows us we will never experience our paradise without weathering a few storms along the way.
