Reverberating xylophonic notes ring eerily as the introduction to Regional One’s latest single ‘Dead Silence’ comes into view, the instrument acting as the musical equivalent to the sinister sound of children singing. A sneak attack of drums and ascending guitars confirm this English quartet’s influence of modern metal giants, the track’s inspiration evident in the form of Avenged Sevenfold’s ‘Nightmare.’
With metalcore musicality from drummer Aaron Levens, bassist Callum Mitchell and guitarist Stevie Lees, the addition of Simon Ball’s clean vocals and succulent harmonies add that crucial layer of substance to the track. Black Veil Brides-esque melodies sit comfortably atop pivotal bass lines, the lyrics “numb the pain living in denial, I can’t save you,” speak of inner-conflict; a theme and topic all can relate to in one way or another, whether it’s the constant battle of helping yourself or attempting to help another lost soul.
The song’s highlight of Lees’ polished sweeping guitar solo transforms into a disquieting piano interlude, the contradictory sounds weighing out and balancing the scales on the track. ‘Dead Silence’ paves the way for a smooth transition into the possibility of a debut EP for Regional One.
