PISTOLS AT DAWN - 'Voices'

60 – 70% of our thoughts throughout any given 24 hour period are negative. Recognising this negative, self-critical script gives us the ability to deal with the demons that haunt us. The personification of this realisation comes to us from Atlanta hard rock five-piece Pistols At Dawn with the hard hitting single ‘Voices’.

Pistols At Dawn was formed in 2015 bringing Adam Jaffe (drums), Devin White (guitar), Mike Buffa (guitar), and Billy Sullivan (bass), together with Rockstar Supernova finalist Chris Pierson (vocals). Following Buffa’s tragic death in 2018, the band reunited with guitarist Tommy Richardson. ‘Voices’ is the first single from upcoming EP Nocturnal Youth and is packed with heavy riffs and an anthemic chorus.

White and Richardson’s dual tones are quick to set the groove. The way they captivate us rhythmically and melodically is similar to a preacher drawing in a congregation that is more than ready to testify before a single word is even sung. Pierson’s vocals have tones reminiscent of Sevendust’s Lajon Witherspoon as he muses on how ‘emotion runs over’. Licks of intense growl punctuate the lines of the imagery rich verses, angst bathing every word. ‘I can’t find some closure/ For all this wasted time’ calls out to the brothers and sisters in arms who feel that their lives too have been dominated by their negative script.

A guitar solo seeps through the smoke and haze of disillusionment, constructing a shadow play of fighting the phantoms. The light each note represents shines out from the depths the song creates and begs us to defy the voices which hound us. As ‘Voices’ comes to its denouement, the dense groove that was set in the intro comes back around with a new vigour. Testimonies given and consciences unburdened, Pistols At Dawn push us out to live ‘all the life you could be living’.

‘Voices’ is available now across all major streaming platforms. For the latest news from Pistols At Dawn, including more information about upcoming album ‘Nocturnal Youth’ and tour dates, you can either visit their website or follow their social media linked below.
