Luton based Of Concrete Gods serve up another portion of devilishly in your face metal in the shape of ‘Good Samaritan’. Formed in 2018, the quintet seek to follow the success of debut single ‘Obsidian’ with a song full of swagger and an abundance of no fucks given attitude.
A crunching guitar riff sails through distortion like a heat-seeking missile in the opening seconds of the track. The fuzzed out drums pound similarly to a radar pulse as the song’s intended target comes ever
closer to being shot out of the sky. A mere ten seconds in, the track goes from zero to a hundred, driven by high-octane aggression. There is no mincing of the words as Nik Scott barks ‘I can never be the kind to let
you waste a smile’, calling attention to those who actively choose to mask their true intentions or true selves, proclaiming he can see through the facade.
Of Concrete Gods marry melodic vocals to dirty Pantera style riffs, then bring in the mistress of menacing low bone reverberating growls, creating a ménage à trois of dark, heavy, sludge that sucker punches us in the gut.
‘Good Samaritan’ is an all out assault on the disingenuous nature people display when they choose to hide behind a sweet lie rather than face the cold, hard truth that they are not everything they seem. If anyone’s ever been accused of being a duplicitous person, they may just find themselves in these metallers’ crosshairs, so might want to sit this one out. However, if curiosity has been piqued, they should see ‘Good Samaritan’ as a PSA to ‘draw back the veil’ and drop the bullshit.
If you’re expecting a no bullshit attitude, Of Concrete Gods has it in spades. Not only do they talk the talk but with ‘Good Samaritan’, they’ve proven to have the balls to walk the walk.
