As humanity’s evolved, the echelon mentality has spiralled out of control. In a time of rising inequality and well documented discrimination, the ideology of “we all bleed red blood” has become lost in the shuffle. Nu-metal outfit Neptune Rain hope to kick some people from their self-made pedestal with their new single ‘We Breathe The Same’.
Taking their name from the theory it rains diamonds on Neptune, the Cheltenham quartet combine crushing riffs with electronic signals to create a hard-hitting cocktail we can’t get enough of. Stripped back to electro pulses and vocals, Neptune Rain sets an other-worldly atmosphere which sweeps us off our feet. The sound of drums brings rippling guitars through to add huge solar flares to the song’s galaxy. Pulling from their Bring Me The Horizon influence, the dreamscape is immense.
“Let’s start again and be friends if we can” not only calls awareness to society’s hierarchy but begs for it to be levelled in favour of an equal playing field. This commentary on society is brutally honest for a group so young but this fresh perspective on the world’s operations is much needed. “I’m growing tired of insecurity” echoes a sentiment we have of ourselves and the driving force of many peoples’ bad behaviour.
A harder metal riff signifies reaching the crux of the song; “You and I, we’re steering down the same road”. The only snagging point of ‘We Breathe The Same’ is the heaviness and the rap breakdown it’s coupled with, are a little short lived. All in all ‘We Breathe The Same’ may not be treading new ground, but Neptune Rain brings fresh perspective to the state of the world with beats and bars many of us will spend an hour or two trying to emulate.
