Tech-death monoliths Monasteries unleashed new single ‘Allowing Your Traitors To Die,’ along with an incredibly dark music video which premiered with Knotfest. This is the first release for the UK based five-piece since signing to US record label Seek And Strike.
Savagery is the name of the game as the single immediately plunges into a sinister tone. Crunching guitars put you on edge as pounding drums rattle your ribcage. During the short build of the intro, the bass line grips your heart and squeezes til near cessation. Flashes of eviscerating arpeggios play like pouring salt into the gaping wound this single is about to leave you with.
‘Into darkness we sink below’ comes Aaron Wright’s menacing bark as the track descends into chaos. Bouncing between death growls and higher pitched screaming, Wright doesn’t allow you to become comfortable with his delivery. There is simply no room for safety and comfort within a song about accepting your own toxic traits within relationships. He holds a mirror to your face, forces you to look at yourself and accept ‘There’s no angel inside’.
Small pockets of doom litter this epic sounding path to destruction. Low tuned guitars cut through you with each chord, the reverberation setting out to sting. Though the drums are regulated in their pattern, they shoot up your spine as if you are the anvil to their hammer. Monasteries’ musicianship is on stunning display as they seamlessly meander through periods of doom, thrash, and even a little melodic metal with razor sharp precision. Strings skip through the guitar solo, bending to the will of ‘Allowing Your Traitors To Die’ with amazing speed and without hesitation. An incredible piece of guitar work.
Appealing to the dark passenger within us all, Mancunian Monasteries peel back the curtain on the perception we are always the wronged party in any relationship. ‘You acted out on me/ You showed me no fucking sympathy’ Wright barks, echoing sentiment all of us have displayed in the past. With time comes the mentality Monasteries unashamedly confront you with, but there’s nothing wrong in trying to speed up the process of realising ‘You’re the poison I’m the vial’ and melting a few faces along the way.
‘Allowing Your Traitors To Die’ is available now across all major streaming platforms. For the latest news from Monasteries, including the release date of upcoming EP ‘Silence’, follow their social medias linked below.
