METALOMANIACS - 'Hold You' | Single Review

Every relationship will eventually come up against it. The choice then is whether to fight for what you love or let it go. Wanting to fight for this love is heavy metal band Metalomaniacs serenading us with recent single ‘Hold You’.

The Brazilian quartet; Pedro Antunes (guitar), Mateus Durans (vocals), Marcelo Riberio (bass), and Cézar Santon (drums) lift ‘Hold You’ from their first fully English album Last Day On Earth.

I can’t stop dreaming about you,” Durans croons over a pep-in-your-step intro. Durans has the patter as he says all the things we’d love to hear from our lover. As much as we claim to be dead inside, there will always be a part of us which appreciates the sentiment of a love song. Aren’t we all just looking for a relationship which tells us “This is the role I wanna play”?

Metalomaniacs treat us to a full 80s experience with their backing vocals and reverberated guitars which flow like David Coverdale’s locks. As distortion sharpens, licks of guitar flourish beneath the vocals, sucking us right back into the relationship. Paying homage to Whitesnake, Antunes’ guitar solo calls back to the days of long delay adopted by the kings of the 80s power ballads.

‘Hold You’ is a slice of guilty pleasure metal. However, there’s an element of rinse and repeat which makes us wonder if it will become as stale as the relationship they’re fighting for. While there are some small changes as the song progresses, it hasn’t won our heart over this time around.

‘Hold You’ and the album Last Day On Earth are available now across all major streaming platforms. For the latest news from the Metalomaniacs camp, follow their social media linked below.
