With the rise of social media and the birth of the ‘Immediate Generation,’ our attention spans are dwindling at a rapid pace, fulled by snappy punchlines and 15 second video clips that barely achieve their 5 minutes of fame. The multi-talented, driven, and versatile musicians in Major Moment however have pieced together a professional music video for their latest single ‘The Flood,’ complete with a storyline and an array of engagingly distinctive characters.
With black and white aesthetically pleasing contrasts throughout, the track makes its entrance with electronic arpeggios from Andrey Borzykin that appear throughout as a motif, the sporadic synthesiser notes mimicking ripples amidst water that poetically ties in with the songs title. Soft, affable vocals from Russian born Sasha Razumova on the verses personify the notion of floating downstream on an ever-growing stormy day, the feeling of disaster lurking around every meander.
Pounding drums build with intensity and suspense until tragedy strikes, the pop laden chorus melody fuelled further by the lyrics; “In a world so cruel and condescending/ there can be no happy ending. After all, it’s the flood.” Working independently means that Major Moment have been able to be fully involved in the music videos construction, and the visuals accompany the audio fully, with 6000 gallons of pitch black water flooding the room leaving no prop, actor, or listener unscathed.
