Bristol based alt-metal foursome Haunted By Wolves drop their latest single ‘Tell Me’ with an aptly haunting music video. The second single since establishing a full line up, ‘Tell Me’ is a deeply emotional experience.
‘Tell Me’ delivers a soulful Breaking Benjamin style cry for closure after the end of a relationship. A tilt-a-whirl of angst, anger, and frustration at trying to write that final ‘stupid fucking note’ to a freshly former flame claws at the heart strings whilst simultaneously burning at the pit of the stomach. As the intro ticks away resembling the start up of a thrill-ride we’ve all reluctantly ridden, the song ascends into a lusciously sorrow-ridden chorus.
Thick, pristinely polished guitars sweep you through a kaleidoscope of grief. From the subtle swell of the first verse, it becomes clear that this is not going to be another drawn out ballad. As the ascension begins, it’s the drums which control the speed in which you’re hurtling through the emotional turbulence. From the first chorus, ‘Tell Me’ goes full steam ahead into the tempest. The reprieve from the barrage of sadness lasts just mere seconds before hurling you right back in at lightning speed for the final chorus.
‘Tell Me’ is a rueful chronicle of love gone sour and the pain of a broken heart. It depicts the ambiguity of whether or not you are alone in the feeling of anguish the situation is inflicting, the desperation of needing to know ‘Am I worth anything’, and the sadness for ‘a broken song I miss too much’ in a way which burns at the soul of those who know exactly where the band is coming from.
