HAUNTED BY WOLVES - '002'

If you’re old enough to remember battling Pokemon, jumping over reappearing barrels as a tie-wearing ape, and rescuing Princess Peach and Zelda on the Nintendo 64, then you’re old enough to appreciate the musical incorporation of these quintessential childhood memories within Haunted By Wolves’ latest release, ‘002.’ With nostalgia out-selling the contemporary now that the two worlds have collided, the single is the third in line from the Bristol based nu-core band following on from ‘666’ and ‘Tell Me,’ with an accompanying music video that’s centred around a do-or-die video game battle against a character named The Beast.

An 8-bit retro game console start-up sound similar to that of Mortal Kombat initiates the track, as a wall of Mark and Xander’s distorted guitars and alternative metal drumming are laced-up together with continuous technological sound effects. The retro undertones come and go between the metal-core verses, before the chorus’ more melodious lyrics of ‘I’m second in line’ are announced with Luke’s exhausted authority.

Will’s constantly relentless drumming serves as a stage for frenetic headbanging and exorcising your inner struggles through mosh-pitting, an unstoppable force that consumes the track. Robotic spoken word backing vocals and harmonies convulse behind the tracks vocal breakdown, the distorted singing cutting off like a phone call with bad signal or a wire with a loose connection.

As Haunted By Wolves plan on continuing to release new singles in the coming months, ‘002’ is a high bar for the quartet to live up to. ‘002’ is out now across all streaming platforms, and to stay up to date with band information follow their social medias below.
