FATALITY - 'Put em Up'

If you’re familiar with the Mortal Kombat video game franchise, you would know there’s nothing more satisfying or soul destroying than hearing the word 'fatality.' Drawing their name from this popular franchise, Essex based nu-metal outfit Fatality hope to err on the side of satisfaction. With a re-recording of uplifting anthem ‘Put em Up’, this foursome look to enter the fight and emerge the victor.

The current line up of Fatality; Josh Abbott, Gareth Brimley, Matt Shyn, and Jordan Maze, was put together in 2019, though Fatality itself has been a unit since 2015. With follow up to single ‘Saviour’, the Peace Productions Mix of ‘Put em Up’ is a new take on a song about striving for greatness.

‘Put em Up’ is a bass heavy monolith, with meaty guitar riffs serving as the further wind beneath your wings as you ‘learn to fly’. Booming drums get the adrenaline pumping and keep you surging forwards into the face of the naysayers who try to break you down. While this all sounds like something you may have heard before, Fatality make their mark as they blend raw punk vocals with metal guitar riffs and groove infused bass. ‘Put em Up’ is heavily laced with Fatality’s influences as the rap interlude spits ‘are you gonna come break us down’ over psychedelic guitar work and rippling drums a la Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

When the bass drops into a show of grit and determination through death growls and a visceral guitar riff which stays til the end, you can’t help but hear the likes of KoRn come through the speakers. Even at the end of the song, as the guitar rings out, the vocals echo the rawness of a grunge outfit like Nirvana or Alice In Chains.

‘Put em Up’ may present itself as a mishmash of genres, but it’s nu-metal at its crux. Fatality

manage to draw on their influences without convoluting their vision. Breathing new life into an old song is a big risk as fans aren’t always welcoming of change. However, Fatality's risk paid off.

‘Put em Up’ is available now across all streaming platforms. For the latest Fatality news, including future releases and tour dates, you can follow their social medias linked below or click here.
