DOIS PADRES - 'The City That Never Sleeps'

Splintering amongst the stratosphere, riotous fuzzy guitars infiltrate the gaps between space and time as the combination of the aforementioned and Danny’s dirty distorted vocals encourages you to check your speakers to ensure their safety. The extremity of distortion is the main characteristic of the Bedfordshire duo Dois Padres’ latest single, ‘The City That Never Sleeps.’

Initially released exclusively via BandCamp for BandCamp Friday, this tune utilises a chaotic punk structure that would inspire you to break those annoyingly useless decorative plates your grandmother keeps within her mahogany display cabinet, inducing relief without a shred of regret as a result. The frenetically tumultuous drums from percussionist George keep a steady beat, yet often times threaten to break the status quo even further.

After almost a year of being locked up and confined to the claustrophobic spaces we call home, ‘The City That Never Sleeps’ celebrates the joys of a care-free night out, reminiscing about sticky kebabs, wallowing in the mess that the parties often result in and, dare we admit it, almost missing the hangovers. Buzzing white noise flecks across the musical canvas, blurring beneath the lyrics ‘awake in a city that never sleeps, I’ll take what I want and what I need.’

Manipulated oscillators transform the middle-8 into a retro game of Space Invaders, the comical ‘pew-pew’ gun noises bringing about a sense of nostalgia amidst the fuzz-infused track, before the line ‘I’ve been digging up dirt from the graves of all these liars’ plants your feet firmly back on the ground.

‘The City That Never Sleeps’ is available now via BandCamp, taken from Dois Padres’ upcoming LP Swamp Jams, out March 2021.
