"I’ve made mistakes and don’t I know,” are the lyrics that introduce Welsh alternative rockers Defeatist’s latest single, ‘Never Enough.’ Dipping into our sometimes self-righteous minds and instead churning out moral self-reflection and soul-searching conundrums, the track explores owning your mistakes and learning from them in times of failed relationships.
There’s no hiding from the voice of reason as the lyrics and music are immediately enforced, Jacob Eynon's soft alternative vocals deepening the bond between the formerly mentioned and alternative pop punk guitars and drums.
Fragments of metalcore retain a lively and palatable edge in between dejected, woebegone choruses that have you longing to reach out to past flames that were extinguished decades ago with the intention of redemption, the ‘sorry who are you again?’ response hanging in the air causing you to snap back to reality from sheer embarrassment.
No one’s unwavering pride or ego is safe from Defeatist’s fable of transgressions; “If love is lost then I’m to blame” left ringing in the subconscious like a mean throwaway comment made by the playground bully when you were 9 that never left your festering insecurities.
Character development is only a stones throw away though, and you can listen to ‘Never Enough’ now on all streaming platforms. To keep up to date with Defeatist and to stay in the loop, click here.
