Everyone deals with their demons in different ways. Some choose to confront them head on, others bludgeon them with drugs or alcohol, while the rest simply ignore them in the misguided hope they’ll waste away. Combining the three, Kent based Crostpaths recruit Adam Ramey (Dropout Kings), Conor Moore (Hessian Renegade), and Jot Maxi (Hacktivist) for new single ‘Plain Sight’.
A reinvention of ‘Hiding In Plain Sight’ from 2020’s Mutated EP, the single removes all genre based barriers, letting rip on that which haunts them.
Spectres of electronica mast distorted ravings of “all the things that fill my needs”. While the coping mechanisms mentioned aren’t exactly legal, many of us can related to the narcotic fuelled escapism. The intro plants the seed of something about to drop, and we don’t mean the high. Sure enough, the high is pulled away from us as we plunge into a nu-metal state of mind.
‘Plain Sight’ traps Crostpaths’ Ritchie Murray Jack in an air-tight case of emotion. The front man waxes lyrical about his self-hatred to a deranged rave. As we rattle our bones to the dense drums, the distorted vocals resound like voices in our head. “Still he’s stood in a prison of his own design” booms through the speakers, threatening our good time in Catharsis Central.
From here, ‘Plain Sight’ has new light shone on the murky darkness. Small notations are made towards self-improvement rather than dwelling. “That’s not for what you were constructed” steers the ship towards the positive. While “I’m a soul inside a cyber-borg” salutes the strength needed to battle the demons.
‘Plain Sight’ has all the charm and moxie of the original. Yet the bite here is so fresh, you might want to get a rabies vaccination at the same time as your Covid jab.
