CHAPTER 19 - 'How Is There Hope'

How is there hope? The question that’s on everyone’s mind as 2020 blurs into 2021, and there’s still miles upon miles left to go until the finish line even begins to appear upon the horizon as your stamina drains, fatigue sets in, and you gain a thirst that can’t be quenched. As the years blend into decades and trends come and go, hard rock duo Chapter Nineteen are at a loss for new schemes that’ll stand the test of time, and have instead opted to write about the hurdles and pitfalls of modern band struggles.

Their latest single ‘How Is There Hope’ is taken from their upcoming debut concept EP A Story Well Told, and tells the tale of a band who, even though exhibit great talent and an edge of uniqueness, are not enough for the harsh and cruel world of the music industry and its unforgiving fans. ‘Forget what you know, ignore what you heard.’ Comprised of vocalist, guitarist and bassist Dave Musson, and drummer and producer Chris Piper, the band take influence from Nirvana and Every Time I Die, and employ a helping hand from Palm Reader’s Josh Redrup.

Atop skeletal guitar work and unabating drums, the distortion bleeds out into the ether, with Musson’s matter-of-factly vocals teeming with no-frills and no bullshit. Sleazy riffs weave in and out of focus with the repeated lyrics ‘minimise distraction, pay attention to us’ set up against a blank canvas, forcing you to do exactly as you’ve been told. Panned guitars slither from left to right and back again, and the thought-process in production seeps into every corner of your spacial awareness.

Following Piper’s battering ram of drums and percussion, an expectant guitar solo fails to raise it’s head and instead, the track launches into a robotic voice that’s difficult to make out, the noise harking back to old-school metal tracks with hidden messages whose true meanings are only revealed when played backwards. The part-man/part-machine sound sparks curiosity and fascination, the outcome resulting in a more death metal assault than compared with the rest of Chapter Nineteen’s track.

‘How Is There Hope’ is out now, A Story Well Told will be released 23rd April. To keep up to date with band information and touring schedules click here, or follow their social medias linked below.
