BROKEN LINKS - 'Pioneers'

Attend school, go to university, find the love of your life, nab your dream career, buy your first house, settle down with a family, and live happily ever after. Most of us are taught that this is the ideal life, the higher path on which to walk feels like skipping on the moon at 0 gravity, and we think that when we eventually achieve it it’s because of our own dedication and free will to make the choices we’ve made, and even when we do achieve those milestones we wonder why we’re not as happy as we should be and feel like there must be something that’s still missing. Wrong.

The atmospheric rock trio Broken Links tear down the status quo with their latest single ‘Pioneers’ and offer an insight into the ideal life that’s marketed to us from birth, the brain-washing machine that manufactures cogs to keep it up-and-running disguised as unique and individual human beings. The track is upheaved from the bands upcoming album Conflict::States, as Lewis Betteridge’s galloping bass lines create a sense of urgency in the bands’ message and the incessant chugging is rendered squashed beneath Mark Lawrence’s soft electro-rock vocals.

Electronic string sections coupled with Lawrence’s morose vocals dangles elements of Muse like a rabbit chasing a carrot, before a wrecking ball of distortion and nu-metal drums from Phil Boulter demolishes the previously mellifluous melodies. Choral ‘ahh’s’ in the backing vocals creates a build-up that’s larger than life and unduly daunting to the senses.

‘Pioneers’ is available now across all streaming platforms and Conflict::States will be released Friday 30th April. For band information and touring updates click here, or visit Broken Links’ social medias below.
