BLITZ UNION - 'Plastic'

Single use plastic… it’s everywhere, let’s be honest, but how much thought do we really give it? There are recycling schemes and refill facilities but is it really enough to reverse the damage we’ve already done to our planet? It’s issues like this that Czech quartet Blitz Union focus on. However, with new single ‘Plastic’, Blitz Union invite us to see things from another perspective; that of the plastic we use and so readily discard.

This is a band which has a very specific mission statement and are aware of exactly how to execute it while staying true to themselves. Combining elements of EDM with rock n’ roll give us hints of Rammstein and Powerman 5000 but with stylised crisp guitar riffs mixed with techno beats, Blitz Union add a sterilised edge to their sound.

Blitz Union, comprised of Mark Blitz, Schtorm, Governor, and Shodushi, shoot for the sky in

ostentatious fashion, hoping to influence positive social change through the medium of avant

garde visuals as demonstrated in the trippy video. It shows us just how reliant we are on

something which is so disposable… so does it mean it is as disposable as we make out? According to the Prague natives, the answer would be no; ‘You can’t dispose of me, I’m eternal’.

Armed with an intermittent heavy riff, the instrumentals to ‘Plastic’ are executed with electrifying precision. When blended with elements of trance within its electronics, there is something here to satisfy both EDM and rock fans. The overall experience of this upbeat dance with ecological morality feels like it should be played in the middle of a rave as it would quickly fill a dance floor. When combined with how catchy the lyrics are even after a single listen, ‘Plastic’ is Blitz Union at its peak. Refusing to mince their words, Mark Blitz is almost militant in his vocal delivery. A robotic statement of how plastic is literally everywhere; ‘on your face, in your body, in your skin’, creates a moment of which the significance will hit you a while after listening.

If you’re looking to be confronted by your use of plastics and their disposals, this is definitely a song for you. Though if you take the eco-warrior element out of it, ‘Plastic’ still holds its own as a pulsing beat you want to throw your hands in the sky and lose physical control to.

‘Plastic’ is out now across all major streaming platforms. For the latest news from the Blitz Union camp, including new releases and tour dates, you can visit their site here or follow their social medias linked below.
