BISON - 'Begin Again' | Single Review

Mistakes are part of life. They are lessons in how to conduct ourselves… or how we shouldn’t. No person is exempt from that particular schooling. There’s no such thing as a perfect person. We accept people, flaws and all. Do we carry regrets? Of course. To live without regrets is not only difficult to do but would deprive us of Bison’s comeback single ‘Begin Again’.

The Melbourne five-piece return after a 16-year hiatus with a nu-metal heavy hitter that’s tormented by regrets. Lifted from the EP Perfect Mistakes due May 28th, ‘Begin Again’ sees Bison face their demons rather than run from them.

From the outset, Bison have us banging heads to weighty riffs and a rhythm section that doesn’t know the meaning of the word quit. Much like the mistakes we make, ‘Begin Again’ feels unsettling as it shines light on where things went wrong.

Clean rap vocals rattle chunks of text that hit as hard as the riffs. The bark blends well with pockets of sharp singing which begs for reconciliation. Spiralling guitars drag us into the suffocating breakdown. Chaos reigns with frantic drums coming from every angle. Sat in the harsh undertow of white-knuckle waters, Bison leave us feeling disorientated and unsettled.

The formula concocted is nothing new. With a boisterous energy within the Rage Against The Machine family fused with Linkin Park components, the schematics work well. The resurgence of nu-metal is well on the rise and Bison claim a rightful place among the ranks.

‘Begin Again’ is available now across all major streaming platforms. For the latest Bison news, including new releases and tour dates, follow their Facebook linked below.
