Essex’s death metal five-piece Beyond Extinction return with the explosive new single ‘God Complex’. Since their inception in 2018, the band have received critical acclaim leading to a support slot for Cancer Bats in 2019. Following on from earlier release ‘Broken Throne’, the band now turn their attention to the imminent release of their debut EP The Fatal Flaws of Humankind next month.
The EP aims to focus on nihilism and the flaws the human race is riddled with. While these may appear to be heavy subjects for a group which has the average age of just 17, Beyond Extinction display a maturity and talent well beyond their years. For ‘God Complex’, our attention is turned to the outfit’s disdain toward those with the ‘defective thoughts and chains unlinked’ which comes with an inflated sense of self-importance; ‘you only revere what your gospel brings’.
A razor sharp focus on the drums launches the track forward, making the low reverberant guitar riffs all the more crushing. Beyond Extinction have created a brutality in ‘God Complex’ which grabs you by the throat and threatens suffocation. With rage filled statements like ‘Smelt the hatred and build your slaves as I spit on your body and piss on your grave’, this quintet has potential to be death metal’s baby faced assassins.
If ‘God Complex’ is anything to go by, The Fatal Flaws of Humankind should be a brutal
commentary on the human race accompanied by bone rattling riffs and ear-splitting vocals from Jasper Harmer, encouraging the listener to release their inner beast and bang their fucking heads.
