ASK CAROL release new music video for 'Darkest Hour' | Review

How many music videos that are set amongst cows can you think of? Norwegian Alt Pop/Rock duo Ask Carol recently released their third single of 2020, 10th single overall, ‘Darkest Hour’. The unconventional music video, which was released on 12th April 2021 on YouTube, features a song about anxiety and depression,“like the devil on my shoulder”, and is set among some pretty chilled and amused cows between seasons. A groovy looking basement/garage is where the badass and rich tones of those guitar riffs and combo of synth and drums come alive along with Carol’s melancholic and unique Lana Del Rey-styled vocals.

The quirky duo are also currently working on their debut album, an upcoming release

in 2021, after the single was released to streaming platforms on the 27th November

2020. Drummer Ask and lead singer and guitarist Carol, have described their sound as a combination of “fierce and mean and soft and comforting.”

The ‘Darkest Hour’ music video puts a fun and light hearted spin on a topic that is

often stigmatised and taboo such as mental health. ‘Darkest Hour’ is both fun and

uplifting to listen to in contrast to the dejected lyrics, making this music video a whole

vibe. Ask Carol are a perfect example of what we want to hear; that dream pop-rock mixture of upbeat and grunge influenced rock that makes you feel better, not worse listening to it! The message is abundantly clear: grab your guitar and rock out with the herbivores.

'Darkest Hour' is available to listen to now across all streaming platforms, and you can watch the music video below. For more band and touring information, visit their website here or follow their social medias linked below.
