AntiMozdeBeast, a solo artist dabbling in experimental genres such as harsh industrial noise and electronic metal, is back with a new EP to be released on 23rd April, entitled The Ritual. The EP is available to pre-order on Bandcamp where you can automatically download the latest track ‘Masquerade of Death’.
‘Masquerade of Death’ opens with a catchy drumbeat that is soon layered with those rough, screamy vocals that we've all come to love in the metal community. The standout lyrics hit first; “it has begun, the beckoning of the sun,” and that is truly how the track feels, as though something is beginning, the sun is being reckoned with and we are being taken away into another dark universe where this song makes sense.
With the electric synth then kicking in over the top of its harsh vocals and echoing drumbeat, the song has the feel of a horror sci-fi movie come to life; there is a sense of haunting and darkness, interestingly contrasted by the techno that evokes a sense of flashing colourful
lights. It feels as though ghosts are breaking through the song with the hopes of hypnotising
people with their bright, flashing eyes and their techno sounds. Unfortunately, the electronics
become nearly too loud, almost completely covering the vocals beneath them. It is the case
that one has to pay quite close attention in order to hear the lyrics.
That being said, the imagery and atmosphere that 'Masquerade of Death' provokes is an experience within itself. The song incorporates many strange and noisy elements being mashed together and it will doubtfully be everyone’s cup of tea, but it definitely seems worth having a listen, nonetheless. Perhaps you’ll find yourself a new favourite artist and whole new genre of music to explore.
