AMONGST LIARS - 'Black Days'

There is a lot to be said for the effectiveness of the Tory government over the last 10 years. Adding their voice to the ever growing choir of displeasure is Brighton rock four-piece Amongst Liars with new single ‘Black Days’.

Amongst Liars was formed in early 2020 by Ian George (vocals), Leo Burdett (guitar), Ross Towner (bass) & Adam Oarton (drums) who are looking to release their debut album later this year.

The intro to ‘Black Days’ reads like a march into a protest (illegal unless you’re protecting statues apparently), intermittent blasts of fuzzy chords putting the opposition on notice. From here, Amongst Liars launch into a full frontal assault on “austerity measures, questionable decision making, incompetence, lies, and self-serving political bias”. Ian George’s vocals resemble a speaker on Hyde Park Corner, or the leader of a rally as he proclaims ‘Black days are here’. Heavy guitar riffs of defiance play between the clauses of the verse, Amongst Liars’ protestations remaining as unrelenting as the barrage of scandal coming from the ‘rich man… with that blood on your hands’.

Amongst Liars’ decision to not include a solo in ‘Black Days’ is a clever one as it may represent the people coming together and uniting as one voice rather than a multitude. The loop-like nature of the instrumentals allow the call to arms George delivers; ‘start the fire’ to rally the masses against the idea of laying down taking the lies of the government in silence.

‘Black Days’ and its b-side, ‘Oceans Apart,’ are available now across all major streaming platforms. For the latest Amongst Liars news including new releases and tour dates, you can either head to their website or follow their social media linked below.
