Wolverhampton natives Vicious Nature are offering up a cyclone of metal, with ‘VII’ creating a superstorm of thrash, death, and doom. After generating an imposing presence on the live scene and living for the road, the latest record from ex-members of Marshall Law, Clovenhoof, and Cerebal Fix, does not impede or show mercy toward the weak.
The slow, tranquil intro of ‘(The Calm) Before the Storm’ ruses with delicately soft guitar work by Andy Southwell, performed only as a deceit to disguise the impending ambush.
‘Rise Up’ assaults the senses with sludgy bass lines from Mark Culley and a double kick drum battery from Jon Brown. Soaring above the death metal riffs are the agonising vocals that excrete desperation from Andy Pyke, of which fans of Venom would approve.
Early thrash grooves slither throughout the Megadeth guided track ‘Fight for Your Life,’ and ‘When the Devil Calls’ threatens competition for the throne of inciting circle pits. The slow tempo bridge acts only as a moment of respite to regenerate as the sweeping guitar solo infiltrates before you can call time out.
The leisurely grooves on ‘Twisted, Psychotic’ echo whispers of Korn with the lyrics “I’m twisted, psychotic, I’m always fucking on it. I’ll take you, I’ll break you, I’ll always fucking hate you,” and ‘The Silence That Kills’ features an unholy depraved breakdown that’ll induce misanthropy.
Ending with the politically anti-establishment tune ‘System of Disorder,’ chants of "fuck the system" closes the record with an all-consuming notion of wrath, and a very sore neck indeed.
