DEAD POSEY - 'Malfunction' EP

The spooky wedded duo that make up Dead Posey return with their second EP ‘Malfunction.’ It encompasses the superstitious content from the initial footprint they’d made with ‘Freak Show,’ songs of which featured in TV shows Lucifer and Teen Wolf. This new sound however, hones in on the alluring and foreboding atmosphere that’ll have you checking under your bed before you dare close your eyes at night.

Opening track ‘Head of the Snake’ introduces a less commercial industrial sound with a confrontational tribal drum beat, constructed by guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Tony Fagenson.

Danyell Souza’s moody and bewitching vocals are the thread that binds the songs together. The lyrics pack a punch at toxic individuals in the single ‘Parasite,’ with simplistic sleazy verses that give a boost to the chorus; ‘I’m trying to play nice/but you bite.’

With an American Horror Story aura to it, superstitious terminology is in abundance on the track ‘Bad Things.’ From ‘knock on wood’ to ‘broken mirrors’ and ‘black cats,’ you may find yourself walking around with pockets full of pennies before leaving your house these days, just to be safe.

Although musically stripped back, the electric fuzz guitar expands into and fills the void on ‘Holy Roller,’ with static sound effects seeping throughout and slithering into the ether.

Dead Posey have certainly found their footing with their chosen sound on this EP, opting to bring the paranormal and supernatural soundtrack that many of us prefer to bury within our subconscious, to the forefront of our attention.
